Texas Home Visiting (THV) helps young children and families in Lubbock and Beaumont, Texas
Did you know the experiences a child has in their first five years can shape how their brain develops?
Parenting a young child is full of challenges. Without the knowledge of tools, access to resources, and a community, the challenge of parenting can become almost impossible, not to mention stressors like finances, poverty, and generational trauma.
That’s why Buckner International offers help for parents. Because when a family goes through challenges, it's ok to ask for help. Buckner International offers Texas Home Visiting (THV) to families in Lubbock and Jefferson counties. Parents expecting a baby or have a child up to age 5 can benefit from free assistance through THV.
THV is a free program where early childhood professionals regularly visit the homes of pregnant women and families with children under 6 years of age. The goal of the program is to support positive child health and development outcomes, increase family self-sufficiency, and create communities where children and families can thrive.
Some of the advantages of services include:
- Trained home visitor/case manager
- One-on-one sessions to discuss your specific family challenges
- A customized plan to help parents and child(ren) to be successful
- Child developmental assessments
- Client assistance provided to meet basic needs
THV will focus on the following trainings:
- Health module - Parents will learn prevention methods such as hygiene, wellness visits, shots, proper food storage, and more. Parents will also learn to recognize the signs and severity of symptoms and how to respond.
- Home Safety Module - Parents will learn the importance of home safety such as suffocation, drowning, fall restrictions, poison, fire and electrical, choke, firearm weapon, and sharp object hazards.
- Positive Child Interactions Module - Parents will learn how to provide structure around daily activities. This includes implementing age-appropriate routines and stimulating activities for children.
