Period Poverty affects girls and women

Let's help end Period Poverty for females globally in need. It's a bigger issue than just affordable access to pads and period underwear.

It's crazy to think in today's world girls and women struggle to have access to sanitary and affordable feminine hygiene products. But it's a legit problem. Let's rally together and help normalize uncomfortable words like pads and period underwear. Girls have periods, period.

On International Women's Day, Buckner launched a campaign to help source period products to provide immediate relief for females living in Kenya. Female children and mothers serviced through the Buckner Family Hope Center in Kenya benefited from the generosity those who contributed tangible products to help keep girls in school and working women working. No person should have to miss an education or earning wages because they do not have feminine hygiene products.

How can you help impact a female's life right now?

We are still collecting items to send to Kenya. Please join us in helping females in need. Here's how you can make a difference:

  • Visit this Amazon Wish List (AWL)
  • Purchase hygiene products on the AWL to help females, ages 10 to 50, served by the Buckner Family Hope Center in Kenya
  • Items purchased via the Amazon Wish List will ship directly to the Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in Dallas and prepared for the upcoming shipment to Kenya
  • Donate financially to the Period Poverty campaign -- this helps purchase feminine hygiene products to send to females in need

Why help females in Kenya?

This Period Poverty campaign is intended to provide immediate relief to a small village of 100 females who do not have access to pads or period underwear. These females are served by the Buckner Family Hope Center in Kenya.

Why is Buckner so passionate about helping women gain access to pads?

  • 79 percent of Buckner International's nonprofit employees are female -- we understand this assignment.
  • School-age girls in Kenya, who don't have access to pads, may miss one week of school per month. That's not OK.
  • Working-age females, who don't have access to pads, may miss one week of wages per month, which can be catastrophic for a family trying to rise out of poverty. This is also not OK.
  • Buckner serves vulnerable populations. Females who do not have access to clean, affordable pads and underwear are vulnerable.
